100th Scouting Anniversary

On March 27, 2024, Nevada Area Council will turn a hundred years old.

Nevada Area Council was chartered on March 27, 1924, by the Boy Scouts of America as the Reno-Western Nevada Council. It covered all of the state of Nevada including Humboldt, Washoe, Storey, Ormsby, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, Esmeralda, Pershing, Churchill, Lander, Eureka, and Nye Counties in Nevada (excluding Clark and Lincoln counties in southern Nevada), and California’s Alpine county and the Southeast portion of Lassen county. In the Reno area, the first Troop was organized in June 1911.

Not many organizations can say they are 100 years old. It is a testament to the Boy Scouts of America character-building youth program that our Nevada Area Council has survived the various tribulations that this area has endured. The Nevada Area Council has helped thousands of youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

We will celebrate this monumental feat with several celebrations in 2024. We hope you will join us! If you would like to get involved in the committee planning these events or if you would simply like to share your ideas on how we should celebrate, please contact us at info@nevadabsa.org.
